Getting the skinny on fat

Poor fat has gotten a bad rap over the last 50+ years. There used to be no difference between good fat or bad fat. And if you ate fat then you were going to be fat. So, supermarkets stocked low-fat foods that were made tasty by adding sugar. It’s not surprising that obesity increased right alongside the increased popularity of low-fat foods! Although, lifestyle factors, inactivity, fast food, and processed foods also contributes to obesity. Today we know that good quality fats by themselves won’t make us fat and are important for our brains, hair, skin and nails, and digestive tract. It also help our bodies absorb fat-soluble vitamins and antioxidants (A, D, E, K) and can help us feel fuller for longer. Eating whole foods including good fats is an important part of a healthy diet.
